Businessman Peter Go Lim, a long time friend of President Duterte is now subject for manhunt over alleged drug syndicate.
MANILA – Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar on Monday has ordered three key offices to determine the whereabouts of businessman and alleged drug lord Peter Lim.
“We are checking on that and I have given a directive to the DI (Directorate for Intelligence), PDEG (PNP Drug Enforcement Group), and CIDG (Criminal Investigation and Detection Group) to check on this. We have no exact information yet to validate this,” Eleazar said in a press conference in Camp Crame.
Eleazar’s remark came after earlier reports quoted Interior Secretary Eduardo Año as saying that the Cebu-based businessman may have already left the country.
“However, I believe that once we get validated information, we can make the necessary coordination with our foreign counterparts. We will catch him whether he is in the country or outside the country. It is just a matter of time,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said Lim has no recent record of departure based on the records of the Bureau of Immigration (BI).
“Per BI records, there is no record of departure by PETER GO LIM. His last recorded foreign travel was in 2017,” Guevarra said in a message to reporters.
Asked if Lim may still be in the country, Guevarra said “We cannot really be sure. Our country has a very extensive coastline. There are known backdoors in our southern borders.”
Guevarra said Lim’s passport expired in 2019.
In August 2018, the Makati City Regional Trial Court issued an arrest warrant and a hold departure order against Lim for charges of conspiracy to commit illegal drug trade.
Lim was tagged as the supplier of drug lord Kerwin Espinosa and his group operating in Cebu in 2013 and 2014.
