AdChoiceTV News — At least 18 police officers have tested positive for drug use since January, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported yesterday.
A breakdown from the PNP Crime Laboratory showed that four police personnel from Calabarzon and Bangsamoro, two from Central Luzon and Eastern Police District, and one each from the Highway Patrol Group, Civil Security Group, Southern Police District, Western Visayas, Northern Mindanao and Caraga were found positive for drugs.
The PNP said a non-uniformed officer was among those who tested positive for drugs.
These police officers are undergoing pre-charge investigation,” Crime Laboratory deputy director for administration Col. Grace Eustaquio told reporters.
Eustaquio said around 80,507 police officers or 37 percent of the more than 200,000 PNP members underwent drug tests.
Of the number, Eustaquio said 561 were from the Command Group, 541 from the Directorial Staff, 8,768 from national operational support units, 3,141 from the national administrative support units and 67,496 from regional police offices.
The Crime Laboratory said 463 police personnel have tested positive for drugs since 2016.
The PNP is among the agencies carrying out President Duterte’s drug war, which has killed more than 6,000 people since 2016. At least 273,014 drug suspects have been arrested in 183,603 police operations. — via Irvin Chua
